Mobile Bay Causeway closed for Thursday morning commute as Francine passes

MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Coastal flooding will be a big issue throughout Thursday. Officials with the Alabama Department of Transportation closed the Mobile Bay Causeway mid-bay exit at around 3 a.m. in several spots.

For right now, ALDOT has closed the causeway heading east at the Bankhead Tunnel. It’s closed heading east and west at the mid-bay exit. Commuters are asked to find alternate routes. High tide for Mobile is just before 6 this morning. Flooding along the causeway is to be expected considering how much rain the area has seen over the last 24 hours.

The eastbound lanes of the Causeway are open from Daphne to the battleship for the time being.

We expect the closures to remain for all of the morning commute. We’ll continue to update this story as we get new information.
