Tropical Depression 7 likely to become a Tropical Storm Thursday: NHC

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tropical Depression Seven could become a Tropical Storm on Thursday, The National Hurricane Center said.

Approximately 600 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands, Tropical Depression Seven maximum winds are at 35 mph heading west-northwest.

Tropical Depression Seven is expected to strengthen within the next 48 hours, and could become a tropical storm Thursday.

If Tropical Depression Seven becomes a tropical storm, it will be named Gordon.

Disturbances in the Atlantic

Located in the central tropical Atlantic, weak low pressure is producing rainfall and thunderstorms.

Development of this system in the next seven days is 10%, according to the NHC.

Low pressure several hundred miles from Leeward Islands is expected little development over the next few days due to dry air in the area. A formation chance is 10% in the next seven days.

A few hundred miles offshore the southeastern U.S. coastline, a non-tropical area of low pressure could form in the next few days.

Some subtropical development is possible early next week as it drifts north. A chance of development in the next seven days is 30%.
