Deputies investigate report of man approaching kids

GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say they are investigating a report by some children that they were approached by a stranger south of Grand Rapids on Thursday morning.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office said the three kids under the age of 13 reported a man came up to them. on the M-6 Trail between Division and Eastern avenues as they rode their bikes to school around 8 a.m. and “asked them to go with him.” They did not, the sheriff’s office said, and instead went to a safe space and called police.

The sheriff’s office said the situation is not believed to be linked to another situation in Cascade Township Tuesday in which two children reported a woman driving a minivan approached them as they walked home.

“There is no a threat to the general public, but we want to keep our community informed,” the sheriff’s office said.

Anyone with information was asked to call the sheriff’s office at 616.632.6125 or Silent Observer at 616.774.2345.
