Virginia localities invited to apply for flood preparedness grants

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation is inviting Virginia localities to apply for the latest round of grants from the Community Flood Preparedness Fund.

City and county governments across Virginia have until Nov. 9 to apply to receive money from the fund, which has been helping communities plan for and increase their capacity to mitigate flooding since 2020. This round of grants will amount to $85 million in total.

The fund prioritizes projects that are “of community scale in concert with local, state and federal floodplain management standards, approved local resilience plans and the Virginia Coastal Resilience Master Plan,” according to the department.

All applications must be submitted through the department’s WebGrants portal. The portal, as well as more information about eligibility rules and how to apply, can be found on the department’s website .
