Busy California streetcar line to return to service after years-long hiatus

San Francisco Muni’s L Taraval trains are set to return to service on Saturday, September 28, marking the completion of the L Taraval Improvement Project. This extensive, multi-agency effort has revitalized over two miles of Taraval Street, upgrading both transit infrastructure and essential utilities, providing a smoother and safer commute for passengers.

Key upgrades include new train tracks, safer boarding islands, and improved accessibility. Over 175 new trees, enhanced street lighting, and public art were also added, transforming Taraval into a safer and more beautiful corridor.

L Taraval trains will run every 10 minutes on weekdays and every 12 minutes on weekends, offering one-seat rides between Embarcadero Station and SF Zoo. Bus service along the L route will be discontinued.
