Lubbock man connected to deadly fentanyl overdose gets prison

LUBBOCK, Texas — Michael Micolites, 36, pleaded guilty on Thursday to possession of a controlled substance in connection with a deadly fentanyl overdose. He was sentenced to five years in prison.

“[Micolites] just wasn’t a drug dealer, he was an addict,” said defense attorney Charles Blevins. “He just didn’t understand fully the consequences of his actions, how great they could be.”

EverythingLubbock.com tried to obtain a police incident report regarding the overdose. Police did not provide the report and said it could only be obtained through an Open Records Request, which was filed on Thursday.

Online jail records showed Micolites was arrested in the 2600 block of Milwaukee Avenue on January 6, 2023. Blevins said after a man was found dead in an apartment after an overdose, police found his phone and texted the last person that he had reached out to for drugs. That led authorities to Micolites.
