Boulder police detain suspect after vehicle is driven onto Folsom Field ahead of Rocky Mountain Showdown

Authorities in Boulder detained a suspect after a vehicle was driven onto Folsom Field Thursday evening.

The incident prompted a campus-wide emergency alert at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. CU officials reported a heavy police presence and warned bystanders to avoid the area around Folsom Field.

Social media posts circulated depicting that a damaged pickup truck was driven onto the field and an unidentified shirtless man was seen near the 40-yard line posing next to the vehicle.

At 7:44 p.m., approximately 90 minutes after the initial emergency alert, CU Boulder Police reported that the suspect was in custody and the scene was secure, but advised the community to continue to avoid the area while police conducted an investigation.

A few minutes later, the Boulder Police department announced on X that they were coordinating with CU Boulder Police to arrest a hit and run driver who fled the scene of a crash at Foothills Parkway and Arapahoe and entered the stadium.

Police did not release further details regarding the suspect at the time of the incident.
