Beloved Manitou Springs tavern closes unexpectedly

(MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo.) — A mainstay of Manitou Avenue, the Royal Tavern, has suddenly closed its doors for good, leaving locals who loved the bar stunned.

Manitou neighbors were surprised on Tuesday, Sept. 3 to find a sign posted on the Royal Tavern’s doors that read “Closed for business. Thank you for your support through the years.”

The son of Donald Moses, the bar’s owner, passed away back in May. Moses himself then passed away weeks later, and he reportedly left the bar to his daughter.

FOX21 News reached out to the Manitou Springs Chamber of Commerce, which said it isn’t sure why the bar has closed. The Chamber of Commerce added that it is not aware of any imminent sale of the business, either.
