Driver ejected after overturning on Savannah Hwy

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a vehicle hit a ditch and overturned on Savannah Hwy.

According to authorities, the single-vehicle collision occurred Thursday around 3 p.m. Deputies responded to Savannah Hwy and Bay Pond Rd in Ravenel.

Officials say the vehicle was traveling northbound on Savannah Hwy when it crossed the median and into the southbound lanes. The vehicle hit a ditch and overturned, ejecting the driver from the vehicle on impact.

The driver was the sole occupant, deputies report.

Concerned drivers stopped and attempted life-saving measures while emergency responders were en route. Authorities say the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the name of the deceased.
