Perdue donates 400,000 pounds of chicken to food banks

SALISBURY, Md. — Perdue Farms is donating 400,000 pounds of “no-antibiotics-ever” chicken to food banks on the East Coast to support Hunger Action Month.

The contributions are equivalent to about 333,000 meals, the company reports, and are headed to facilities in Delaware, Maryland, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

The sites were chosen based on need and Perdue’s service area.

“We also carefully considered the areas with the highest concentrations of food insecurity, aiming to direct resources where they are most needed,” said Todd Tilleman, the chief commercial officer at Perdue Farms. “Through previous donations and collaborations, we’ve established valuable partnerships with many of these food banks and recognize the importance of long-term partnerships in effectively serving our communities.”

The recipients, including the Food Bank of Delaware, are grateful for the effort.

“This generous donation from our long-standing partner, Perdue Farms, will positively impact the lives of our Delaware neighbors struggling with food insecurity every day but especially (during) this Hunger Action Month,” said Cathy Kanefsky, president and CEO of the agency.
