NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The man recently charged in a Portsmouth murder from May just pleaded guilty to a different case in Norfolk.
25-year-old Keonte Whitfield pleaded guilty on Thursday after pointing a gun at drivers on an intersection, running from police and discarding the gun on school property.
On the afternoon of June 12, a Norfolk Sheriff’s deputy drove past a man walking near the intersection of Tidewater Drive and Virginia Beach Boulevard. He was then seen by deputies pulling a gun from his waistband and pointing it at drivers.
The deputy alerted nearby officers, who saw Whitfield running toward Booker T. Washington High School. While officers were pursing him, Whitfield discarded the gun in a trash can on the school’s football field.
Whitfield was arrested after the brief pursuit, and officers recovered the gun from beside the trash can where Whitfield had thrown it.
He pleaded guilty to felony possession of a firearm on school property as well as misdemeanor brandishing, carrying of a concealed firearm and fleeing from law enforcement.
