Woman shot in Akron; police chase ended on I-480

BROOKLYN , Ohio (WJW) — A shooting and apparent abduction led to a “lengthy” police chase that started on Akron’s north side and ended on Interstate 480 West on Friday afternoon, according to authorities.

Akron police dispatchers just after 11 a.m. received multiple calls of a shooting in the 600 block of East Cuyahoga Falls Avenue. That’s near the Clifton Avenue intersection.

Witnesses said the suspect was armed and that he had shot a woman, then forced her into a pickup truck and drove away.

Officers tried to stop the truck near the intersection of East Linden and East Cuyahoga Falls avenues, but the driver allegedly fled.

The distance between the chase’s origin and terminus is about 40 miles. During the pursuit, negotiators spoke with the man and the woman in the truck and persuaded the man to give up and allow the woman to receive medical treatment.

The truck stopped along I-480 West near the Southwood overpass and the Tiedeman Road exit.
