First Alert Weather Day: Potential heavy rain, isolated strong storms

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY: The remnant circulation associated with Francine has stalled near Memphis and this will continue pulling moisture across our area through the weekend. That means more tropical downpours and isolated storms moving in from the south through today, Saturday, and Sunday. It won’t rain everywhere throughout this entire period, but there will be increases in development as temperatures rise each day. Guidance is favoring the I-65 corridor for some higher rain amounts, with one source suggesting we could see over a half foot of rain in some areas. This would certainly lead to some flash flooding issues. A marginal risk (level 1/5) is in place for strong to severe storms from early afternoon (1 p.m.) through this evening (10 p.m.) Storms that develop could contain gusty winds and heavier downpours. The tornado threat remains low, but not zero. Have the WBRC First Alert App and/or a NOAA Weather Radio to receive watches and warnings if they are issued.
