Volusia Sheriff: 2 middle school students arrested for posting school shooting threats

Two Heritage Middle School students, ages 13 and 14, were arrested after they posted school shooting threats on TikTok and Instagram according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.

The threats aimed at the Deltona school were part of a spike in such cases which prompted a warning to parents from Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood.

“This is absolutely out of control and it ends now,” Chitwood said at a press conference Friday.

Both students are charged with making written threats to kill, a felony. The Sheriff’s Office stated in a social media post that they were arrested Thursday night and Friday morning.

Officials: Threats strain law enforcement

While no credible threats have been lodged against any Volusia County school, the threats disrupt classes and strain law enforcement resources, the posting stated.

The Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Friday post on Facebook that “students should be aware that all threats are taken seriously by law enforcement, and threats from ‘anonymous’ accounts can be traced.”
