14,000 strawberry snacks sold nationwide recalled due to elevated lead

TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – Federal health officials say several thousand units of an outer-space themed strawberry snack are being recalled this week due to lead concerns.

The Food and Drug Administration ( FDA ) issued an alert Thursday, Sept. 12 regarding a voluntary recall from American Outdoor Products, Inc. of Boulder, Colorado. The company is recalling a little over 14,200 units of its “Astronaut Strawberries” snacks due to elevated levels of lead.

The FDA has marked this as a “Class II” recall, meaning there is a chance for health problems to occur in connection with consuming the recalled snacks. The products were sold in numerous states, including Kansas.
