N.C. Jaycees recognize local chapter

The Greenville Jaycees won five awards during the North Carolina Jaycees Mid-Year Awards Banquet in Emerald Isle and were named the No. 1 state chapter in the Parade of Excellence.

“Our chapter has been able to accomplish so much in the first part of 2024, and we hope to do much more for the greater Greenville area in the latter part of the year,” Greenville Jaycees President Melinda Sampson said. “We are so proud of our award winners and our event awards. Our members work hard to support local businesses and nonprofits, and we do it with personality, creativity and dedication. The Greenville Jaycees have a heart for service and development. We believe in the greater Greenville community and are happy to be a part of its growth; we are happy to support organizations that offer services to better the lives of our community members. It is certainly an honor and a joy to be a part of such an impactful organization.”

The civic group won in the Local Growth and Development category for the Greetings from the Dominican Republic event in partnership with Villa Verde. This event was intentionally designed to collaborate with a business that aligns with the Greenville Jaycees’ commitment to serving its community. Villa Verde’s #platformforgood created an ideal partnership to recruit members and community volunteers. Claudia Ortega, the Greenville Jaycees’ Vice President of Community Development, organized the event. Ortega also received the First Semester All-Star Vice President Award for her work in community involvement on behalf of the chapter.
