Wildcats sweep Warriors in Quad County power shift

As the balance of power in 3-A Quad County Conference volleyball has shifted southwest down I-95 the past couple of days, its queen for the past three years isn’t quite ready to hand over the crown.

Three-time Quad County champion Hunt suddenly finds itself in third place after back-to-back losses to South Johnston on Tuesday and West Johnston on Thursday, the latter coming in a 3-0 sweep by the Wildcats. That’s the first time the Warriors have been swept in a Quad County regular-season match in the fourth year of the conference’s existence.

The Wildcats, whose only conference loss was to Fike in four games on Aug. 27, blitzed Hunt 25-16, 25-18 before hanging on to win the third game 26-24. West Johnston, now 8-5 overall, rose to 5-1 in conference play while the Warriors, who lost in five games at South Johnston, dropped to 5-7 overall and 4-2 and tied with Fike (6-6, 4-2 QCC) for third place. The Warriors will host the Golden Demons on Tuesday while the Wildcats welcome South Johnston (10-3, 6-0) the same day in the Quad County version of Wrestlemania.
