NEW YORK — Mayor Eric Adams’ top City Hall attorney has resigned — the most significant development yet in the fast-moving scandal engulfing his administration.
Adams’ team announced the departure of Chief Counsel Lisa Zornberg late Saturday night with no explanation about the move.
In a brief statement, Zornberg said she is “deeply grateful to Mayor Adams for giving me the opportunity to serve the city, and I strongly support the work he has done and continues to do for New Yorkers.”
In a statement sent Saturday at 10:37 p.m., Adams thanked Zornberg for her 13 months of city service and said he expects to name an acting replacement “in the coming days.”
“These are hard jobs and we don’t expect anyone to stay in them forever,” Adams added. “We wish Lisa all the best in her future endeavors. The other senior members of the counsel’s team will remain in their roles to ensure the office continues to fully operate without issue.”
A spokesperson for Adams did not provide Zornberg’s resignation letter or give any further explanation for her abrupt departure.
