Fugitive Arrested After Jumping from Window, Fleeing from Police

FISHERSVILLE, Va. – A Waynesboro man is behind bars after attempting to flee from police on September 12.

According to a media release, deputies from the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) were attempting to serve multiple arrest warrants on a subject at an apartment complex on Bobby’s Way.

The subject, Christopher Robert Hutchinson, jumped out of a window and fled on foot. The pursuit continued across Jefferson Highway towards the Wilson complex.

Wilson Schools were immediately placed on “code secure” status while deputies established a perimeter and searched for the fugitive.

Deputies located Hutchinson in a wooded area near Truitt Lane and took him into custody without incident.

Augusta County Public Schools soon issued the following statement:

This afternoon, we were notified by the Sheriff’s Department of a non-school related event in the Wilson schools community.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Sheriff advised our schools to “secure.”  During a code “secure”, students and staff remain inside the school and the instructional routine is not disrupted.
