SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Since 2009, the Cattle Baron’s Ball of Southwest Missouri has been fighting against cancer, raising nearly six and a half million dollars.
Tonight — they hope to get even closer to that benchmark number.
People from all over the area joined the fight at Wilson’s Logistics arena.
For the first time, the American Cancer Society is expecting over two million people to be diagnosed with cancer this year, so an event like this is more beneficial than ever.

“It’s an evening of fun and fellowship with friends and family, but it’s also an opportunity for a chance for us to recognize those that we have lost in the battle of cancer with the luminaries,” said Mary Sharg, one of the Baron hosts for this year. “It’s a chance to raise money for research, for cancer, for the testing that we all need to undergo.”
Starlight and Spurs was the theme of the 16th annual ball. The western-themed event was lined with dinner, dancing and donations. Shrag says that this area cares about one another.
