Lubbock business news includes pizzeria closure, Covenant expansion, more

Hello A-J readers!

This week brought a mix of business news, including the closure of another pizza restaurant, a $6.6 million expansion at Covenant Children’s and the opening of Grassano & Pioquinto LLC CPAs.

A second pizzeria announced its pending closure this month due to increased costs and competition.

“Since we opened this location in 2022, we have seen six to eight competitors open in a three-mile radius,” said James “Red” Williams, with Westside Pizza. “That’s a lot of pizza taken out of the market.”

Westside Pizza, 6616 Milwaukee Ave., will close Sept. 20, just over two weeks after Urban Bricks, 7610 Milwaukee Ave., closed. Together, they join La Bella Pizza, 2112 50th St., on the list of closed businesses of 2024.

Construction for the pediatric expansion is ongoing, and is expected to be complete by the end of 2024. The NICU expansion will begin soon, and could be done by mid-2025, according to the release.
