No. 12 Utah Overcomes Slow Start En Route to a Triumph 12 Years in the Making

Utah has officially moved to 3-0 on the year after a 38-21 win against Utah State puts an exclamation point on future star Isaac Wilson’s first-ever collegiate start under center.

The first half of the game was a concerning period for the team as both sides of the ball looked disjointed for the Utes which led to a surprising 14-3 Utah State lead at the start of the second quarter.

However, with two second-half touchdown passes to Money Parks and Caleb Lohner , Wilson was slowly finding his groove and settling into his style of play after being overwhelmed by the aggressive Aggie defense early.

The momentum continued into the second half as Micah Bernard muscled his way into the endzone with four minutes left in the third quarter and Kuithe capped it off, taking a shovel pass courtesy of Wilson across the goalline for a two-point conversion.

Former Utah hero Bryson Barnes rushed into the endzone to end the third quarter, bringing the game within a score, but that’s where the well dried up for Utah State as a monster run from Bernard set the offense up in the red zone. After driving up near the goalline, tight end Carsen Ryan made a spectacular one-handed catch in the end zone to solidify the win for the Utes.
