20-year-old man dies in motorcycle crash in Hughesville

CHARLES COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Maryland State Police (MSP) are investigating after a 20-year-old man died in a motorcycle crash in Hughesville early Sunday morning.

According to MSP, at around 2:40 a.m., troopers from the MSP La Plata barrack responded to Maryland Route 5 south of Old Leonardtown Road for a report of a “serious motor vehicle collision.”

MSP said that the preliminary investigation indicates that Connor McCarthy, 20, of Mechanicsville, was driving an unregistered 2008 Suzuki GSXR-750 southbound at a high speed when he failed to navigate a curve in the roadway and lost control of the bike.

McCarthy and the Suzuki then collided with a guardrail, according to MSP.

He died at the scene.

MSP said that speed, alcohol and “driver error” appear to be the factors in the crash.
