Stricker edges Green in playoff for Sanford three-peat

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Steve Stricker outlasted Richard Green on the fourth hole of a playoff to win his third straight Sanford International Sunday at Minnehaha Country Club.

The two matched each other through the first three holes of the sudden-death playoff before Stricker birdied to claim his fourth title in the seven-year history of the event.

Green forced the playoff with a birdie on 18 to match Stricker at 8-under for the tournament. It marked the second time in three years the champion was crowned in a playoff.

Stricker carded a 3-under 67 on the final round, and Green went 1-under on the day.

Four players finished within two shots of Stricker and Green. Ernie Els and Bernhard Langer completed the weekend 7-under. Steven Alker and Michael Wright came in at 6-under.
