Skeletal remains found in Line Fire evacuation zone in Running Springs not fire related

Deputies discovered human skeletal remains within the Line Fire evacuation zone in Running Springs over the weekend, although the remains were not initially believed to be related to the ongoing wildfire, officials said.

The grisly discovery took place about 3:45 p.m. Saturday along Highway 330 south of City Creek Road, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

“Deputies from Twin Peaks were on proactive patrol in a closed area of Highway 330 when they located bones,” the agency said in a written statement . Officials ultimately determined the bones were human.

“The bones appear to have been in that location for an extended period of time and investigators do not believe the cause of death is related to the fire,” according to the statement.

Coroner’s officials collected the remains and launched an investigation into the identity of the person and how they died.

No further details were available.
