Windblown dust advisory issued for Coachella Valley, Banning Pass as cooler temps move in

A windblown dust advisory has been issued for the Coachella Valley and Banning Pass.

The advisory will be in effect until 9 a.m. Tuesday, according to the South Coast Air Quality Management District, which issued the advisory.

Persistent high winds are forecasted in the Coachella Valley with gusts of up to 31 miles per hour are forecasted for the Banning Pass, the district said in a news release. Dust levels will likely be the highest at night, the district said.

Windblown dust is expected to add to the current smoke pollution from the wildfires burning in the region and should cause the air quality to become unhealthy for sensitive groups or worse.

As of Sunday afternoon, the Line Fire , which started around the nearby city of Highland, had reached 38,421 acres and was 36% contained.

The National Weather Service forecasted clear skies with a high near 85 degrees for Palm Springs on Monday. The agency said Banning had a 50% chance of showers on Monday, with patchy fog and a high near 68 degrees.
