Strong to Severe Storms Possible In North Dakota & Northern Minnesota
09/16/24 10:46am ET
Good morning everyone. We continue to watch heavy tropical showers & thunderstorms coming ashore in coastal areas of North Carolina and South Carolina. Very heavy rains and gusty winds have caused some issues in terms of rain flooding, rough surf, and minor coastal flooding; but there could also be a severe weather component to this as time goes on.
Winds across areas such as Myrtle Beach and Wilmington have been steady at 25-30mph, with 35-40mph gusts. We are expecting those winds to increase in intensity, with gusts to near 60 possible across coastal sections. As with any landfalling tropical system, severe weather and brief tornadoes will be possible this afternoon and evening.
Interior sections will not be spared, which means Virginia, Tennessee, and interior parts of North & South Carolina, all need to keep a lookout for the possibility of damaging winds, hail, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and tornadoes as low pressure works its way to the northwest.
