Caller-Times resumes Student of the Week contest for 2024-25 school year

The Caller-Times Student of the Week initiative is returning for the 2024-25 school year.

The series launched last year to honor the academic successes of high school students from across the Coastal Bend.

Caller-Times journalists regularly visit schools across the Coastal Bend, speaking with educators, students and families about important issues and news stories in education. Through the Student of the Week competition, the newspaper shines a light on individual students who are making waves on their campuses and impressing teachers and school leaders.

The Student of the Week winner is the student who garners the most votes in a weekly poll at Caller.com, but every nominee should be proud of their accomplishments. Each honoree has been identified by an educator as one of the most outstanding students on their campus.

Reading through the nominations each week was inspiring, and a reminder that there are so many phenomenal students in the Coastal Bend.

Take West Oso High School’s Luiz Marquez , a runner-up from an early February reader poll, who stood out for his service to the community, organizing a project to provide food, hygiene kits and clothing to more than 75 unhoused people. At school, he was also a leader in many school activities and competed in University Interscholastic League competitions.
