Man charged in 4-year-old’s death due back in court

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The man charged in the death of his girlfriend’s 4-year-old daughter after police found her in a trash can is set to face a judge Monday morning.

Jaylon Hobson is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated child abuse, abuse of corpse, tampering with/fabricating evidence, and false offense report.

On June 15, 2023, Hobson’s girlfriend, Brittney Jackson, reported to Memphis Police that her 4-year-old daughter Sequoia was missing from their home on Caldwell.

However, after further investigation, the child’s body was found in a trash can near her apartment.

According to court documents, Jackson told investigators Sequoia had been dead for weeks, and they had been storing her body in garbage bags inside their house.

She said Hobson had attacked Sequoia multiple times, and after the last attack, she was unresponsive. MPD says that Jackson also admitted she never rendered aid.
