Kentucky state senator hospitalized following lawnmower accident

Kentucky State Sen. Johnnie Turner, R-Harlan, was taken to a hospital Sunday after being injured while riding a lawnmower.

Kentucky State Police spokesperson Shane Jacobs told The Courier Journal that Turner drove the mower into the deep end of an empty swimming pool at his home. State police, along with emergency medial services and a local fire department, responded to a 911 call at his home just before 8 p.m.

Turner was taken to Harlan ARH Hospital, Jacobs said, adding he did not know Turner’s condition.

WYMT-TV in eastern Kentucky reported Turner was later flown by helicopter to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, but is in stable condition.
