Exciting times for high school seniors across Alabama!
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation just revealed the semifinalists for the 70th annual National Merit Scholarship Program, and we’ve got plenty to celebrate.
Over 16,000 students nationwide made the cut, and a fantastic group of students from our local schools are among them.
This is a huge honor and puts these students on the path to potentially winning a prestigious National Merit Scholarship.

What Does It Take to Be a National Merit Semifinalist?
Making it to the semifinals isn’t easy—it’s kind of like the Olympics of academics.
Less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors are selected, based on their top scores on the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. But these students aren’t done yet.
To become finalists, they’ll need to submit a detailed scholarship application, complete with their academic achievements, leadership roles, community involvement, and any awards or honors they’ve received.
