Nine Augusta area suspects plead guilty in drug trafficking conspiracy

Multiple people were sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to charges connected to an Augusta-area drug trafficking conspiracy.

The charges stemmed from USA v. Walters et al., an indictment alleging an Augusta-area drug trafficking conspiracy, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia.

The following individuals, mainly from Richmond and Columbia counties, were recently sentenced:

  • Phillip Smith, 49, of Augusta, was sentenced to 13 years in prison and fined $2,500 after pleading guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
  • Brian Hilliard, 40, of Augusta, was sentenced to nine years in prison and fined $1,500 after pleading guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
  • Joshua Wasden, 36, of Thomson, was sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined $2,000 after pleading guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine
  • Glen Taylor, 45, of Beech Island, South Carolina, was sentenced to more than three years in prison and fined $1,500 after pleading guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
