From Winn-Dixie to Aldi: $1.7 Million Makeover to Create a 21,930 SF Subdivided Store in Florida

It looks like another Winn Dixie is about to get the Aldi treatment! Floridians have been noticing that more and more Winn Dixie stores are being transformed into Aldi locations, and now, the popular discount grocer has its sights set on St. Petersburg. After purchasing 400 Winn Dixie stores last year, Aldi is moving forward with plans to renovate the Winn Dixie at 3327 Dr. Martin Luther King Street.

This specific Winn Dixie has earned 4.1 out of 5 stars on Google reviews, with over 3,000 people weighing in. While many customers have had good experiences, some recent reviews point towards troubling issues.

In September 2024, Aldi officially filed renovation plans with the city of St. Petersburg, outlining a $1.7 million project. The current Winn Dixie store is about 46,000 square feet, but once the transformation is complete, Aldi will occupy 21,930 square feet of that space. This leaves room for another tenant in what’s being called a “junior-anchor” space, which has yet to be claimed.

It’s important to note that while the plans have been filed, they’re still awaiting approval. But if the renovation goes forward, St. Pete residents will soon be welcoming a brand-new Aldi to the neighborhood.
