TAMPA, Fla. – Deaf Awareness Month is celebrated in September as a time to raise awareness of the needs of people who are deaf or hard of hearing. Florida has a large deaf and hard of hearing population, with over 800,000 people in the state. More than 340,000 of those people live in the Tampa Bay area.
