Another week of high school sports is behind us, and it’s time to recognize outstanding performances from Cumberland County student-athletes with the 910Preps Athlete of the Week award.
Seven nominees fill this week’s ballot, among them a school wins record-setter, a six-goal week with a hat trick, two huge plays in a streak-busting football win and much more.
Here are the 910Preps Athlete of the Week nominees for Sept. 9-15:
Taylor Baggett, Gray’s Creek volleyball — The junior Western Carolina commit had 16 kills in a straight-set win over Jack Britt for a 5.3 kills-per-set average to go with two blocks and 11 digs. Baggett also posted 13 kills with a 59.1% success rate along with a block and five digs in a 3-0 win over South View for the Bears, who haven’t lost a conference match yet.
Shea Bieniek, Cape Fear girls’ tennis — Bieniek became the Colts’ all-time wins leader last week with No. 119 in her already storied high school career. Bieniek didn’t drop a set and won two matchups without dropping a single game in a 3-0 week for the undefeated Colts, who are seeking a third state title in Bieniek’s fourth year.
