North Cobb Christian survives 6 OTs against Ringgold, Carver shuts out Northside

It took six overtimes, but the North Cobb Christian Eagles beat No. 10 Ringgold 41-39 Friday in a key Region 7-2A game.

The win moved the Eagles, ranked No. 8 in 3A-A Private, to 5-0, 3-0 in Region 7, and keeps them on track for a second straight region championship. Last year they won 6-2A for the first region title in a program that dates to 2007.

Further, it was the Eagles’ first overtime win in program history, according to GHSFHA.org.

Though the Eagles won’t play in the 2A tournament due to the new playoff format, the win was still important for the points standings that determine the 3A-A Private tournament’s seeding.

“A quality opponent like Ringgold (3-2, 1-2), who’s going to get plenty of wins this year, to top them in OT is huge for the points system,” said Eagles coach Matt Jones of Ringgold, whose only other loss was to No. 8 Rockmart, also in 7-2A. “But it’s also huge because the kids are believing in themselves that, when things get close, we’re going to win. We dealt with some adversity and didn’t do our best, so to be able to win in that situation, but still have plenty to work on, is good for us.”
