High School Notebook: A look at the Lakeview volleyball, soccer invitationals

BATTLE CREEK – The Lakeview High School campus was busy Saturday as the athletic program hosted both a volleyball invitational and a soccer tournament.

The Lakeview volleyball team was able to keep the championship hardware in house as the Spartans had an impressive day. The Lakeview soccer team saw a visiting team come in and win its tournament.

The Lakeview volleyball squad went undefeated on the day, defeating Kalamazoo Christian in the championship final, 25-8, 25-21. On the way to the finals, the Spartans swept Vicksburg, Bronson and St. Philip in pool play. In the tourney quarterfinals, Lakeview knocked off Ann Arbor Skyline, 25-22, 25-11 and then beat Kalamazoo Central in the semifinals, 25-13, 25-23.

“I am extremely proud of every single girl today. We fought the entire day, never giving up. The girls came together and played their hearts out on the court. Defensively we were hustling and didn’t let a ball hit without a fight. Offensively our focus was on mixing up our shots and plays throughout the whole day,” Lakeview coach Renee Buchholz said.
