Contract awarded for Warner Park Rec Center expansion project

MADISON, Wis. — Construction will soon begin on an expansion to the Warner Park Recreation Center after the City of Madison awarded a contract for the project.

Vogel Bros. Building Company came in with the lowest bid of $9,795,492. That includes an initial bid of $9,069,900 with an 8% contingency of $725,592.

That bid was roughly $1.2 million over the city’s budget, however the Common Council amended the budget in August to push the project forward. City officials decided that delaying the project through re-bidding would only lead to higher construction costs down the line.

The expansion project would add a gymnasium, a public gathering space, storage and mechanical spaces. The locker rooms and restrooms will also be renovated, and the building will be equipped with a geothermal heat recovery system and solar energy system.

” WPCRC facility usage trends have significantly changed since COVID, with an increase in regular teen and young adult use stemming from Madison’s northside schools and community,” Warner Park Facility Manager Zach Watson said. “As community needs continue to grow, the WPCRC expansion will be an asset not just for the northside, but for the entire city.
