CSPD: Officer punched in face while arresting suspect

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a call about a car driving the wrong way on Lake Avenue on Saturday night, Sept. 14. While attempting to detain the suspects, an officer was punched in the face, according to police.

CSPD said officers were dispatched around 11:45 p.m. Saturday to the area of Lake Ave. and South Nevada Avenue after reports of a damaged vehicle traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Lake Ave. When they arrived, officers saw people about 300 feet from the scene who they believed were involved in the incident, based on information from the call.

According to CSPD, officers detained two people, but one became combative and was taken into custody after allegedly punching an officer in the face. The officer was checked by medical personnel at the scene and released.

The suspect was charged with assaulting an officer, and a second person was arrested for obstructing officers, police said.
