Early birds get a jump on Eagles home opener tailgate

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It’s game day for the Eagles, and some die-hard fans got an early start on their tailgate in South Philadelphia in anticipation of the 8:15 p.m. home opener Monday against the Atlanta Falcons.

For the last 11 years, Eric Wayne has tailgated and been a pitmaster for Eagles home games. And his menu is nothing short of amazing.

“Got here about 4:40 this morning. I got a lot going on. Got a pig going right now. Gonna come off about 5:00, 5:30. Then, around the same time, we’re going to start cooking some bone-in ribeye, some lobster tail, a little bit of short rib going on — so, got a little bit of everything going on today.”

Wayne is one of a number of people who start their tailgate before the lots even open. And he says the early start time is well worth it.

“You meet new people. It’s all Eagles family down here, so that’s what it’s all about. Just family and fun. It’s like Christmas Day down here.”

His prediction for the night’s game: Eagles, 33; Falcons, 10.
