The needs of those living near the now-closed 1st Ave. Hy-Vee

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The needs of people living near the now vacant 1st Ave. Hy-Vee in Cedar Rapids includes more than just food. Hy-Vee closed three of its locations in Eastern Iowa earlier this summer. All of them were in areas where census data described them as low-income. Hy-Vee cited financial concerns as the reason for the closure. It’s hard to gauge the real needs this closure has left on the communities around it, but some resources are able to give some perspective.
