Bridge Fire at 54,690 acres, firefighters make progress

Firefighters on Monday will continue to strengthen containment lines for the Bridge Fire , which was marked at 54,690 acres, with 11% containment.

There are 2,785 fire personnel battling the fire from the ground and air, with crews focusing on direct attacks along the fire’s edge to protect Big Pines and Pinon Hills to the northwest, according to Cal Fire.

While the fire continued backing down toward Big Pines Road, crews successfully held it in check on Sunday night, Cal Fire officials stated.

Although windy conditions hampered night flying aircraft Sunday night, firefighters were successful in direct and indirect line construction, increasing containment by 2%, fire officials stated.

The Bridge Fire ignited on Sunday, Sept. 8 in the Angeles National Forest, with flames quickly spreading from Los Angeles County into San Bernardino County.

The Bridge Fire moved through the area of Mt. Baldy, Wrightwood and Pinon Hills, injuring three people, destroying 54 structures, and damaging 13 others by Monday, Sept. 16, fire officials stated.
