New substation helps PPD spend less time commuting, more time protecting and serving

One of the goals for the Pensacola Police Department is to always find ways for officers to increase their efficiency serving the public, and a new police substation now open on Pensacola State College’s campus means officers can spend less time commuting and more time fighting crime.

Previously, officers assigned to the north end of the city would have to travel downtown to the department headquarters just to perform the most mundane administrative tasks, whether it be writing a report or simply charging a radio, and, once you incorporate waves, officers could get pulled off the streets for an hour or more.

“This (substation) allows PPD staff in the northern parts of the city an opportunity to have a faster response to calls for service and higher visibility in assigned patrol areas since staff can utilize this facility to accomplish many administrative duties,” PPD Chief Eric Randall said.

However, while the new substation can prevent patrol officers from veering too far from their assigned areas by allowing the bulk of administrative duties to be done in one area, there are still some things they will have to travel back downtown to complete, such as submitting evidence from a case or transporting someone who has been arrested.
