Live updates: Pearl Fire burning northwest of Fort Collins

The Pearl Fire entered its second day Tuesday, with multiple agencies fighting the wildfire about 50 miles northwest of Fort Collins.

The fire, which began on private property just after 11 a.m. Monday, was human caused, according to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.

Red Feather Elementary School closed due to Pearl Fire

Red Feather Elementary School dismissed early Monday to get all students and staff out as the fire grew, and an email went out to students’ families and staff late Monday night announcing that there would be no school Tuesday and that the school would shift to remote learning Wednesday.

“As soon as it is safe to return to the Red Feather Lakes Elementary building, we will let you know,” PSD Mountain Schools Principal Tom Schachet wrote in an email that was also shared on the school’s website and Facebook page. “In the event that we are out of the building for an extended time, we are working on a plan to bring students to Livermore Elementary for in-person learning. This would start no earlier than next week.
