Man in costume armed with knife Tased and arrested in Canton Township

CANTON TWP. — Stark County sheriff’s deputies Tuesday morning used a Taser to subdue a 35-year-old man wearing a costume who was holding a knife and running into traffic, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post .

Pictures of the incident taken by passersby and posted on Facebook indicated the man was wearing a black robe and black hood like the central character in the “Scream” movie series.

The sheriff’s office said around 8:28 a.m., deputies responded to a report of the man in the costume with a knife in the 1400 block of Raff Road SW. Deputies say the man brandished a knife.

The man then fled onto nearby U.S. 30. Deputies chased after him on foot. They say they were able to stop vehicles on the expressway. They then used a Taser on the man and took him into custody. The sheriff’s statement said the man had no apparent injuries.

The man was charged with the felonies of resisting arrest and two counts of aggravated menacing and the misdemeanors of obstructing official business and inducing panic. He was also wanted on warrants charging him with aggravated possession of drugs and attempted grand theft.
