Georgia groups rally to get voters registered ahead of election day

ATLANTA, Ga. (WJBF) – With just seven weeks to go until election day, there’s a renewed push to get voters registered.

Several groups took part in national voter registration day today in Atlanta including the NAACP, Georgia Stand up, Urban League, Clark Atlanta University and community based churches.

Several faith based groups, community organizations and voting rights activists reaching out to Georgia voters to get registered before the election deadlines.

“Folks like us and our partners will be all across the state in high schools, local community centers, outside of restaurants and making sure that everyone we talk to is registered to vote and doesn’t need to update their status, and you are ready to vote in November,” said New Georgia Project Policy Director, Stephanie Ali.

Groups like the New Georgia project hope to register up to 50,000 voters by November 5th (Election Day). They’re going to several schools to tap into younger voters and reach minority voters.

If you haven’t registered to vote, you can register on the my voter page on the secretary of state’s website or at the department of driver’s service or your local library. You’ll just need a valid photo id or the last four digits of your social security number.
