Birmingham police officer released from hospital after I-65 crash

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A Birmingham police officer was released from a hospital after they were injured on I-65 northbound Tuesday.

Birmingham Police Department Sgt. LaQuitta Wade stated a North Precinct officer at around 10:30 a.m. was working on a collision involving at least two vehicles. The officer was in their marked police unit when it was struck from the rear passenger side.

New Birmingham program to provide affordable housing

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel took the officer to a local hospital. The driver of the vehicle that hit the police unit did not sustain injuries when the crash occurred.

The injured officer was accompanied by a partner at the scene, but the other officer was not in the police unit during the crash. After receiving treatment, the injured officer was discharged from the hospital.
