Suspect in Mount Vernon, NY murder arrested in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man want for murder in Mount Vernon, New York was arrested in Norfolk last month.

Around 10:20 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, officers from the Mount Vernon Police Department were called to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital for the report of a stabbing victim.

When officers arrived on the scene, they learned that 37-year-old Michael Clay, of Mount Vernon, New York, had suffered multiple stab wounds to his chest and arm. Clay was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Shortly after detectives began investigating, they identified 34-year-old Mount Vernon resident Ronald “Eueu” Hechavarria as a suspect. The investigation also revealed that Hechavarria had fled New York and was located in Norfolk.

Hechavarria was apprehended on Aug. 12 at an apartment complex in Norfolk. Multiple law enforcement agencies including the Norfolk Police Department, the FBI Safe Streets Task Force in Norfolk, and the Westchester County FBI Safe Streets Task Force assisted with the arrest.

The Westchester County Department of Public Safety Warrant Fugitive Unit transported Hechavarria back to Mount Vernon. He was charged with murder in the 2nd degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the 3rd Degree.
