Recovery creates unbreakable bond between friends

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Recovery can restore things we lost, repair broken pieces, and redefine what you thought you knew. People often discover the true meaning of friendship, and many have cultivated lifelong relationships with people they connected with on their sobriety journey.

Today, Jose Padilla-Para lives a life completely different from his past.

“So, I’ve been clean since August 21st of 2020,” Padilla-Para said. “I’ve been getting, you know, under the influence of drugs since I was about 13 years old. I was in and out of juvie, you know, was on probation all the way through high school, middle school, and I’ve been locked up.”

A rough adolescence took an even sharper turn in 2016.

“I overdosed on fentanyl, and I ended up in the hospital. And, I mean, you know, I had a tube down my throat, you know, all the other stuff, is connected, and, you know, when that happened, you know, kind of opened my eyes to recovery,” he said.
