The Texas Department of Transportation Amarillo office alerted the public to a closure on the loop as first responders worked at the scene of a fatal crash Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, one person was killed and one person critically injured and taken to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital after the crash, which involved an SUV and a truck tractor/semi-trailer.
DPS said preliminary information indicates the semi was northbound on SL 335, while the SUV was westbound on Soncy Road. According to early reports, the SUV stopped at the stop sign, but it failed to yield right of way to SL 335 traffic. After the vehicle entered the intersection, the SUV was struck on the driver’s side by the semi.
DPS said the truck driver was not injured.
TxDOT said northbound State Loop 335 was closed at Amarillo Boulevard due to the vehicle crash.
“We will update as more information becomes available,” officials stated.
No further information has yet been released.
